MnStf meeting reminder At the home of David Wilford and Erin McKee, 549 East Third Street, New Richmond, WI.
Here are the basic directions to our home:
Take I-94 east into Wisconsin until you get to the exit for Roberts, and take Hwy 65 north to New Richmond.
Once in New Richmond, stay on Hwy 65 until you get to the intersection with East Third Street (it's one block north of the light where the U.S. Post Office is.) and turn right. Go about five blocks to Oak Street and our house will be the dark green one on the left with the MnStf sign out front.
FFI: call either 715-222-9167 (Erin) or 715-222-9168 (David).
There are lots of other ways to get to our home, some being shorter or even longer. Always keep in mind that short cuts may make for long delays though... ;-) | | Thursday, May 15th, 2008 | 8:38 pm [quadong]

carpool Would anyone like to carpool with Kelly and me to this Saturday's mnstf meeting at Erin and David's (in Wisconsin about an hour east of the Cities)? We need to be there by 3 for the board meeting and will probably stay fairly late. We could use our car or yours.
(I've mumbled about this before to some people, but don't recall any definite answers.) | | Tuesday, May 13th, 2008 | 4:29 pm [quadong]

Minicon flyers to Wiscon Who'd be willing to take Minicon flyers with them to Wiscon? If you are, please e-mail me your address and I'll mail you a stack (or you could arrange to pick them up from me, but that is probably more difficult and the postage cost is trivial).
Alternatively, you can print the flyer off the web. However, I've printed it on blue paper to make it a bit more distinctive, so if it's not really easy for you to do the same and there's still time for mailing, let me mail you mine. | | Monday, May 5th, 2008 | 2:44 pm [kaustin]

Corflu virtual consuite They're streaming video (and audio) live from Corflu right now in their virtual consuite. (I've always thought about doing something like this for Convivial or Minicon or something, but never have.) | | Sunday, April 20th, 2008 | 1:28 pm [asimovberlioz]

Not-so-confidential to pleasant_muse Ahem! Would you kindly answer the following questions for me: - Why was it necessary to make that "George Lucas Exclusive" post in two columns with fixed widths, thus screwing up the f-list formatting for those of us with smaller or lower-res monitors?
- What is the need of posting a "scoop" that is nearly seven months old? and
- Are you so reluctant to consider any form of criticism that you must delete responses to the said post?
Nevertheless, with all good will, I await your reply, you puzzling and thusfar uncooperative person. Current Mood: irritatedCurrent Music: Ambient sounds | | Friday, April 18th, 2008 | 9:36 am [cakmpls]

Minn-Stf meeting tomorrow Our house: 3328 Colfax Ave. S., Minneapolis (near Lake and Lyndale)
Official start time 2 p.m., but the crowd starts arriving later (4-ish). Board meeting at 2:30.
I will be making the usual chili, and I hope to also manage a vegan soup. The usual drinkables and munchies will be supplied, but additions are always welcome.
We have cats. Only one is likely to appear, at least after a few people get here, and we will have "taped" (sticky roller) the upholstered furniture, but they are here.
Kids are welcome if they are attended. They can watch DVDs upstairs if they want to.
No smoking, please, either in house or outside near windows.
I'm up for a game or 6 of Fluxx. | 7:18 am [pegkerr]

Death of Margaret Howes; funeral today David Lenander let me know of the death of Margaret Howes, a longtime Minneapolis fan and attendee at Minicon and one of the co-founders of the Rivendell Group of the Mythopoeic Society here in Minneapolis. Margaret was 80. There was an obituary in the Star-Tribune yesterday, and the funeral is being held today: Margaret J. Howes Howes, Margaret J. Age 80, of Mpls, passed away April 15, 2008. Survived by son, Bruce (Joyce); daughter, Denise; 7 grandchildren; sister, Dorothy (James) and brother, Douglas (LaVern). Funeral Mass Friday, April 18, 2 PM, with visitation 1-2 PM at Annunciation Catholic Church, 509 W. 54th St., Mpls. Cremation Society of MN Mpls 612-825-2435 Published in the Star Tribune on 4/17/2008. David Lenander writes: Margaret was one of the original group that gathered together at the invitation of Todd Zuhlsdorf to form the Rivendell discussion group of the Mythopoeic Society. She and Ruth Berman and I were the only ones from that original gathering, in 1973 or 74 who were still regularly attending. Margaret had been a member of the Society over the years, off and on, and had attended a Mythcon or three. She was our guest of honor at Bree Moot 5, after the publication of her novel, The Wrong World, and I have a web-page up for her fan activities here.
If you cannot attend her funeral service, you might want to post a memory or condolence to the Guest Book on the StarTribune Obituaries web-site, or if you'd like to send any comments to me for posting on my Margaret Howes page, I'd be happy to do that. Perhaps we can take a few minutes at the [Rivendell] meeting on Saturday to remember her. | | Wednesday, April 16th, 2008 | 5:35 pm [captinben]

June meetings shifted I've updated my previous post and the Minn-StF website to reflect the fact that the June Minn-StF meetings have been shifted from the usual 1st & 3rd Saturdays to the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of that Month. I didn't know that when I put this stuff together, had just heard the hosts for the two meetings and presumed the dates. Oops! Sorry about that.
The first meeting of June will be on June 14th at the home of Dean Gahlon & Laura Krentz.
The second meeting of June will be on June 28th at the home of Marian Turner.
And it sounds like there won't be a meeting on July 5th (since it's a holiday weekend, CONvergence is that weekend, we'll have just had a meeting the previous weekend, and so forth). | | Thursday, April 10th, 2008 | 3:59 pm [laurel]

Upcoming Minn-StF Events This list and more can be found on the Minn-StF website, but I figured a post here once in a while couldn't hurt. Mark those calendars! If anyone has any additional info on meetings or corrections, please get in touch. There will be a grill going for anyone who wants to grill something (bring your own food to grill). Minn-StF will provide some beverages and snacks, we encourage you to bring some food to share. Web sites used to attack epileptics http://www.wired.com/politics/security/news/2008/03/epilepsy The incident, possibly the first computer attack to inflict physical harm on the victims, began Saturday, March 22, when attackers used a script to post hundreds of messages embedded with flashing animated gifs.
The attackers turned to a more effective tactic on Sunday, injecting JavaScript into some posts that redirected users' browsers to a page with a more complex image designed to trigger seizures in both photosensitive and pattern-sensitive epileptics.
